What's Happening in Falkirk, Scotland…

Creative writing competition returns to Falkirk

A popular creative writing competition is returning to Falkirk this autumn, and those who fancy themselves as writers are being encouraged to submit their entries.

The annual Writing Rammy is put together by Falkirk Council Libraries. This year will mark the seventh in which the competition has taken place and it has become a fixture on the town’s calendar. Entries for the Writing Rammy can be poetry, short stories or comic books. The only rule is that people entering it must be based either in, or close to, Falkirk.

This is a competition that people can take part in regardless of their age. There is a limit of 500 words for entries, but otherwise participants are free to let their imaginations soar. After the closing date for submissions, they will be evaluated by the judging panel and a winner selected in each category.

When organisations are launching competitions like this one, they sometimes find that graphic design outlets in the local area can help with the creation of engaging promotional posters.

The winners of the various categories will be awarded gift vouchers. They will also be asked to read their poems or stories at the event to celebrate the winners, although that is optional.

Among the judging categories are ‘8 and Under’, ‘Young Adult’ and ‘Adult’. The closing date for submissions to the competition is 13th October.
