What's Happening in Falkirk, Scotland…

Conversion planned for Falkirk storage space

The storage space directly over a vacant shop in the heart of Falkirk is set to be turned into a flat, after Falkirk Council chose to give the nod to the plans at a recent meeting.

This space is located above a retail unit that used to house Alexander Wilkies, on Newmarket Street. The company behind the plans to convert it into a flat is Redan Property Investments and it initially put the application in to the council during the early spring. Planning officers for the local authority opted to vote through the proposals at a meeting in the first week of this month.

The Alexander Wilkies outlet closed its doors last summer and the unit has been lying empty ever since. The company was in trouble financially, but after its recovery it confirmed that it would not reopen the Falkirk branch.

While the store was still open, the space above it was used for storage purposes, as well as for administration and facilities for its employees. Now it will be brought back into use, as much-needed housing.

Brochure printing from nearby shops is one option available to housing developers who want to showcase new homes they have for rent or purchase.

The planning application submitted by this developer indicates that the number of changes made to the building will be limited and will respect its history.
