Alternative prom planned by shop owner in Falkirk

A woman who runs a clothing boutique in Falkirk is trying to put together a special night of celebrations for local school pupils after it was announced that their prom nights have been cancelled due to the Covid-19 outbreak.

Lauren Brown is the owner of Sisters Boutique and Misters Menswear, which is in Lint Riggs. She had been due to provide suits and dresses for pupils in the town to wear at their end-of-year proms, only for the pandemic to step in and bring about the cancellation of these parties.

Her experience of speaking to teenagers disappointed at not getting the chance to dress up and celebrate gave her the idea to create a special one-off event to replace the school proms.

Since then, she has been getting in touch with other local businesses to find out if they are prepared to help and both the companies and parents proved to be enthusiastic about the idea. Businesses such as printing services that provide graphic design are often helpful in creating promotional Posters for events of this sort. Speaking to the Falkirk Herald, Lauren said:

“It’s just wrong for the pupils to have all this expectation taken away from them so cruelly. It’s not like we don’t have the businesses, people and premises to help.”

No date has yet been set for the event to take place.
