Amy Tucker, 11, hails from the Calderwood part of the town and was solely responsible for the comic book, called ‘Mystery Club’, providing both the artwork and the story.
She is a pupil at Maxwellton Primary School, where art is one of her favourite subjects, and she raised the cash for this initial Print run by saving up. She has also set up a website to help generate interest in it.
The comic book is already being stocked in a number of major retail outlets, including Waterstones, Geek-a-boo, and Geek Direct, and the plan is for the youngster to promote it through a personal appearance at the East Kilbride branch of Waterstones.
Her artistic influences include Asterix, Calvin and Hobbs, and the manga art originating from Japan. Angela, her mum, told a reporter from the Daily Record that the whole family took incredible pride in her, adding:
“She really enjoys art, and comic book drawing is what she wants to do and, I think, it shows the quality of her drawings that these businesses are letting her into their stores.”
Projects like this can always benefit from local places that offer full colour printing.
