K-Otic Productions was originally launched half a decade ago and provides drama classes for adults that are on the autism spectrum or have other learning difficulties. Having started out solely in East Kilbride, it has since expanded to the wider Lanarkshire area, but has been experiencing a funding crisis and the prospect of having to close its doors for good.
This came to a head during 2016 when the group lost its main financial support, forcing it to undertake activities to raise emergency funding. This, alongside a donation from Morrisons, the nationwide supermarket chain, secured the group a temporary reprieve.
Now the group has been awarded a grant of £10,000 from Awards for All that ensures existing classes can continue for another year and a further one can be started up. Speaking to the Daily Record, Alex Barr, who runs the group, said:
“All our East Kilbride classes were full and we were really needing to look at adding an extra class just so every member could get the attention they deserve so this funding has come at the perfect time.”
Groups such as this one often choose to use printers that create leaflets to help them promote the activities they are offering to the community.
