This supermarket will be a branch of Sainsbury’s and it will be based in the Jackton area of the town. The precise location will be Eaglesham Road, a few hundred metres away from the Police Training College. The retail chain submitted its application back in the spring and has been waiting for a decision from the local authority.
There were a number of issues that had to be resolved, mostly concerning signage. Sainsbury’s wanted to put up three fascia Signs with internal lighting. It also applied for permission to erect a totem pole sign outside the store that will light up. The council had to decide if local residents would be affected by this.
Promotional Flyers can be a good way for supermarket chains to advertise, when they first launch in the town. East Kilbride has shops that can complete flyer printing orders.
Although the council opted to green light this supermarket, it also imposed some conditions. According to East Kilbride today, its decision notice says:
“It is most important that these are dealt with before work on the development begins. If the development starts without complying with these ‘pre-commencement’ conditions, it may be rendered unlawful.”
What the conditions that must be met are has not been revealed.
