Wetherspoon pub to be opened in East Kilbride

The highly popular British chain of pubs, JD Wetherspoon, has recently proposed to open a new development in the East Kilbride town centre that is to cost £1 million. This is said to be great news for East Kilbride as well as JD Wetherspoon, as the founder believes the pub will be very popular in the area.

According to the Daily Record, JD Wetherspoon is hoping to change four ground floor units in a local shopping centre into an open plan public house. One of these units is vacant, but three are occupied by Shoe Zone, a travel agent and a charity shop. These would potentially be moved to somewhere else in the town centre, when the council gives its decision within the next month.

The establishment is going to cover 5,000 sq ft, suitable for 492 guests, and it will be called The Calverts Court. The plan is to develop an eating and drinking area, as well as seating outdoors, since a new entrance off Cornwall Street is going to be created.

Design Plans include displaying artwork throughout the establishment in order to remember the area’s history. Despite it being the ‘digital age’, printed artwork and Print shops in East Kilbride still remain popular with residents.

Work is expected to start on the development soon, and the founder of JD Wetherspoon is especially keen to get the pub up and running.
