The recent 2014 East Kilbride Summer Festival was a success, with six days of entertainment that coincided with the Commonwealth Games baton relay.
Musical events marked the start and finish of the festival, with South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture students opening the proceedings on June 17th and the Soul Nation Choir rounding them off.
Firms providing poster printing in East Kilbride will no doubt have been rushed off their feet in the run up to the event, but the result was "enjoyed by all", according to Alice Marie Mitchell, a local councillor.
Entertainment on offer at the festival included mandolin and guitar music from Mango and Da Capo Alba, the musical "The Rise and Fall of Little Voice" performed by EK Rep and the Taiko Drummers. Michelle McManus, winner of the "Pop Idol" TV show, interviewed musicians Robert and May Miller live on stage. The interview was a sell-out and had to be staged a second time.
Children who attended the event had drumming and circus skills workshops to keep them happy, as well as face painting sessions, storytelling, and a magician. Arts activities for all ages were also available at the East Kilbride Arts Centre, which held two days of events over the festival weekend. The Queen's Baton arrived on Sunday, June 22nd to a huge welcome from the Summer Festival crowds.
