Success for teen fundraiser from East Kilbride

A teenager from East Kilbride who has shown a knack for raising money for charity has enjoyed further success, bringing the total amount she has raised to £285,000.

Jenny Cook, 13, talked the Morrisons Foundation into awarding Glasgow Children’s Hospital a £150,000 grant. It will be used to purchase a cutting edge microscope for use in surgical procedures and will make Glasgow Children’s Hospital the first in Scotland to have this piece of equipment.

Among the operations that it can assist with are those for lower limb and facial reconstructions, tumour removal and cleft surgery. It represents the latest in a string of fundraising triumphs for the teen, who has ulcerative colitis, a chronic bowel condition that has seen her undergo a number of operations.

Her efforts have led to her being crowned Young Scot of the Year, as well as a Young Ambassador representing the hospital’s charity. She told the Morrisons Foundation about the fundraising appeal when she contacted her local branch of the supermarket about a planned car boot sale.

Cook told the Daily Record:

“My local Morrisons store have been a great support over the years with my fundraising, thank you to all the staff and previous manager David Gibson and Ewan MacDonald for making this happen.”
