Some of the most important and influential businesses in California are being targeted as part of a new drive to encourage American firms to base their business in Scotland or to trade with Scottish companies.
The campaign features online and offline elements, with key print advertisements tying in with some of America's most prominent trade and business news titles, such as the Wall Street Journal.
In a recent report by the Rutherglen Reformer newspaper, it was reported that over 70 companies have been contacted about business opportunities in Scotland. Rutherglen and surrounding areas benefit from bustling local economies, which is attractive to anyone looking to relocate their business, and a number of essential services are already provided in the area by companies who offer such services as business card printing in nearby East Kilbride.
The campaign is being backed by Alex Salmond, the first minister of Scotland. Salmond recently spent four days on America's west coast, extolling the virtues of business in Scotland. He says:
"Scotland is a land of major opportunity and it is open for business. We have a long and impressive track record in life sciences, sciences, technology and creative industries, developing an environment where ingenuity and innovation can create jobs and wealth for Scotland."
The Chief Executive of Scottish Development International, Anne MacColl, also spoke about the campaign, saying:
"This is an excellent opportunity to highlight Scotland's competitive advantages to some of California's biggest companies."
