Work on a motorway scheme to improve the connection between Scotland’s two largest cities is ready to get underway, over three years after the actual scheme was approved.
Transport Scotland and contractors have agreed for work to begin on the M8 between Glasgow and Edinburgh, as well as the M73 and M74, which are also connected.
According to The Herald Scotland, this motorway is the busiest road in north of the border, with more than 9,000 vehicles travelling along it each day. These may include business professionals armed with digital Business Cards travelling to conferences or networking events in East Kilbride or the surrounding areas, which makes this project of particular value to businesses.
The overall project also includes the creation of a new motorway to link Newhouse and Baillieston in North Lanarkshire. Both improvements are expected to cut journey times by up to 20 minutes, something that pleases many businesses. Keith Brown, Transport Minister, said that the improvement is essential to Scotland’s economy and sustainability, and will provide substantial benefits for businesses.
A total of £310m is to be spent on the project, as well as another £180m to be spent on other factors like the acquisition of land. This makes the overall total of the improvements tot up at around £490m. It is expected that the project will be completed in the spring of 2017.Get a Free Quote for Business Cards
