The St Kenneth’s Primary School pupils won eight medals during the event, which saw teams from Clydesdale, Hamilton and Rutherglen/Cambuslang participating. St Kenneth’s secured its place in these area finals after finishing in pole position during the qualifiers for East Kilbride held earlier this year.
That result meant there were high hopes for the school going into this event and it managed to live up to them, with a haul of four team gold medals, two bronze medals for individual runners and a silver team medal.
The last of these was won by Holly Murdoch, during the race for girls from P6. The P6 boys also delivered, with Michael McKinley winning team gold and individual bronze medals, while Leah Muirhead grabbed an individual bronze for the P7 girls – and the team as a whole won gold. Finally, Rian MacLean won bronze for the P7 boys.
Speaking to the Daily Record, Richard Wyatt, their coach, said:
“St Kenneth’s pupils performed terrifically well on a challenging course. This is magnificent, considering they were taking on the best in the county. I am so proud of the squad.”
