It is hoped that with the help of an innovative campaign, the city will be able to attract people from all over the world to visit. Plans are underway to communicate messages internationally and raise the event’s profile before it kicks off in July next year.
Marketing activity for the Games has already started across both online and more traditional channels, with both e-zines and a range of direct mailings being sent out. It is thought that printing companies in East Kilbride and Glasgow itself have been involved in the work.
The chairman of VisitScotland, Mike Cantlay, spoke about the marketing drive, saying:
"Ahead of welcoming the world in 2014, we're working hard to promote the Games as one of the must see events next year, engaging with world leading publications as well as pursuing a marketing campaign which will see activity from Bangalore to Toronto, alongside an extensive push here at home."
As part of the marketing and PR push, a number of journalists from countries across the world have been invited to the Games. Many have also taken part in a number of excursions and events arranged by the Scottish tourism board.
The Games will see athletes from 71 countries descending upon the city in the hope of winning a medal. The marketing team for both the Commonwealth Games and the Scottish tourism board hope that the mood from last summer's sporting events will continue to buoy interest in athletics.
