Kita, a border collie from East Kilbride, went missing recently but was taken in by local resident Barbara Martin until she could contact the police and local newspapers to appeal for Kita's owners to come forward. Thanks to a message in the East Kilbride News, Michelle Hands – a friend of Kita's owner – got in touch and the dog was reunited with its rightful owner.
Many people who have lost pets now choose to look for them by combining new technologies – such as social networks like Facebook – with more traditional ways of appealing for information, like poster printing.
East Kilbride resident Michelle said that Kita often went off on her own adventures, causing her owner to worry. Michelle has figured out a way to help find Kita if she goes AWOL again, saying:
“For her Christmas I am buying her an ID tag with her phone number on it.”
The dog is now at home, safe and well.
Barbara Martin, who found the dog, commented on this, saying:
“I am just so happy Kita is back home. Michelle said Kita was delighted when she saw her and so happy when she saw her daddy. It made my week.”
Anyone losing a pet is advised to get in touch with the RSPCA or local police using a non-emergency number, as well as appealing to friends and neighbours for information about their pet's wellbeing and latest movements.
