Local woman undergoes charity shave

A woman from East Kilbride chose to ‘Brave the Shave’ recently, as she became a temporary skinhead with the aim of generating money for two charities.

Lianne Wilson was seeking to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support and Diamond Blackfan Anemia (DBA), and when she had her head shaved during a local fun day it led to donations of more than £700.

Lianne also co-organised this event, which took place in Greenhills Parish Church, and the tombola, raffles, craft stalls, bouncy castle and face painting on offer drew in close to 70 East Kilbride residents.

She chose these two charities as several members of her family have had battles with cancer, while her nephew has DBA – a very rare condition that prevents sufficient red blood cells being produced by the bone marrow.

The mum of three told the Daily Record that she was pleased with what had been accomplished so far, but planned to carry on raising cash for the two charities:

“I would be looking to do more fundraisers after this, maybe not in the next few months though because we’ll be busy enough with Christmas coming up.”

She added that she hoped that when news of the fundraiser spread, this would lead to more people choosing to donate to the charities.

Local fundraisers often rely on leaflet printers in East Kilbride and other places, to help spread the word.
