Jobs coming with new leisure complex

The multi-million pound entertainment complex being built within East Kilbride Shopping Centre is set to lead to the creation of approximately 200 jobs for people in the town.

It has been confirmed by EK East Kilbride that six nationally known chain restaurants will be moving into the 70,000 sq. ft. complex – namely Filling Station, Bella Italia, Handmade Burger Co, Pizza Express, Chiquito and Frankie & Benny’s.

As a result of this, roughly 200 local people will be recruited to work in these outlets. The process of getting the units ready for use is expected to begin later this year, with the complex within the Olympia Mall set to open late next year.

The completed complex will contain eleven cafes and eateries, as well as a fully refurbished ice rink. The current Odeon Cinema, which has nine screens, will remain part of the complex.

Ian McLelland, the director of the centre, told the Daily Record that:

“This is great news for EK. The six names announced today are some of the biggest operators in the restaurant business and we are delighted that they are now on their way to EK East Kilbride.”

Once it opens, the outlets within the new hub will be able to make use of places that provide catalogue printing in East Kilbride, to supply them with promotional materials.

McLelland added that negotiations were ongoing with other restaurant chains.
