Gran from East Kilbride completes bucket list

A great-grandmother who lives in East Kilbride has succeeded in achieving the final item on her bucket list.

Mary Dawson is 95-years-old and has managed to do everything from climbing the Titan Crane to making friends with a lion during her long life, and she was delighted to get the opportunity to hold an owl in her hand during a recent trip to West Lothian’s Scottish Owl Centre. Afterwards she stated that all of her dreams had now been realised.

Although it was something she desperately wanted to do, this was actually one of the less demanding tasks she has taken on over the years – having held lion cubs at Glasgow Zoo during the 1990s and reached the top of the 150ft Titan Crane at the tender age of 94!

Mary has also enjoyed a close encounter with royalty, having met and spoken to the Duchess of Cornwall last year, with the Duchess having subsequently sent her a photograph, letter and Christmas card.

Speaking to the East Kilbride News, her son said:

“Mum is a real character and it got to the stage we were wondering what she was planning next. But we all think she is marvellous to have done so much in her later years.”
