Fraser Property Company is the firm behind this development and the chosen site is at Peel Park, on Linwood Avenue, next to the A726 Queensway. This area has lain disused for over 10 years and the hope is that the hotel development can be a big step towards its regeneration.
According to the presentation delivered during the planning meeting, landscaped garden areas, car parking spaces, a restaurant and a bar will all be incorporated into the development.
Previous attempts to get building work underway on the site have come to nothing, despite considerable effort having been put into marketing it, thus the news that an agreement has been reached for this hotel is likely to be welcomed by most.
The council’s economic and planning chief, Pauline Elliott, told the Daily Record:
“Staying visitors contribute to the local economy by spending money on hospitality, retail and leisure. Thus the hotel will not only contribute to direct job creation but will also help to support existing businesses in East Kilbride and the wider area.”
