Kathryn Ronney, aged 16, was selected from close to 20 Scottish youngsters to recite the famed Address to a Haggis, for the Burns Supper attended by the Lord Provost and held at the Thistle Hotel in Glasgow.
This event enjoyed an attendance of around 800 people, which earned it – and Kathryn – a place in the Guinness Book of Records as the largest Burns Supper ever organised.
Events of this kind frequently employ printing services in East Kilbride and other areas, to make sure that the public knows all about them.
Afterwards, Kathryn – who is a student at the Dance School of Scotland – told a reporter from the Daily Record that it had been an exciting experience, although the challenge had also been a bit daunting:
“There were 19 of us who auditioned and I was over the moon when I found out I had been picked.
“I didn’t realise we were trying to make the Guinness Book of Records until I arrived on the night and was told the adjudicator was there.”
The teenager also stated that she had thoroughly enjoyed the experience, not least due to helping to set the record, and that she had received positive feedback from those attending.
