The Sunday Club, an award winning sports project organised by East Kilbride Football Club, is to receive a £500 cash boost courtesy of the town’s Community Fund.
The aim of the scheme is to bring children between the ages of five and 16 who have additional support needs together on a weekly basis, challenging them with a range of football initiatives and activities.
Denise Laverty, who is a coach and disability and inclusion officer at the Sunday Club, said that the project has been running since last year and has already seen a significant increase in numbers. It currently supports up to 25 youngsters on a regular basis, all of whom are keen to pick up new football skills and make new friends.
She also said that the group is just starting a fundraising drive to hold a Christmas party for the children following the success of a similar event last year.
The Community Fund donation will enable those behind the project to organise some special events for the festive season, including a grotto and nativity play that will benefit up to 100 children from the area.
Print companies in East Kilbride could be called into action to produce high quality Posters and Flyers to promote the various events that will be taking place. By choosing a local firm, the local economy can be supported.
Ian McLelland, the director of the shopping centre behind the Community Fund, has said the Sunday Club’s recent awards show how much it has grown over the last year.
