Clubhouse to be built in East Kilbride

Work is underway on a brand new clubhouse for use by East Kilbride AC and Whitemoss AAC, thanks to funding from a number of sources, and it is expected to be ready for use by the summer.

Those who provided financing for the facility included sportscotland, South Lanarkshire Council, the Robertson Trust and Biffa, while the athletics clubs set to benefit from it also contributed £32,000.

Covering two storeys, the facility’s lower level to be used as a training space for athletes, a conditioning and strength room, storage space and offices. The top floor, on the other hand, will house toilets, additional storage rooms and a meeting room or library for the coaches.

The Whitemoss chairman, Graham Ravenscroft, commented:

“The athletics hub will transform club athletics in the local area not only for current club members, coaches and volunteers but for generations to come.”

He added that the hope was that the new clubhouse would help those using it to achieve their ambitions, regardless of what level they are competing at.

Athletics clubs like these ones often take advantage of poster printing in East Kilbride and other places, to help them attract locals to their sporting events.

Prior to this, East Kilbride AC and Whitemoss AAC have had to operate the volunteer programmes they provide from modular buildings, which were increasingly unfit for purpose, but now they will have a high-quality base.
