Charity in East Kilbride celebrates anniversary

House of Hope, a charity superstore based in East Kilbride, has celebrated the end of its first year in operation by holding a big party for everyone connected with it.

Customers, employees, volunteers and a number of specially invited guests – including representatives from the Scottish Asian Fellowship, Greenhills Parish Church and St Vincent de Paul Church, plus MP Lisa Cameron – attended to celebrate the occasion.

House of Hope is run by Hope Human Development and Welfare Association, and its chairman, Alphonse Francis, began the party by welcoming everyone in attendance.

He went on to state that the superstore, plus the various additional projects related to it, could not continue without the backing provided by the community in East Kilbride.

Francis concluded by thanking the numerous volunteers who had contributed to the success of the store during its first year of existence.

Charities like this often rely on helpful local businesses – such as those offering printing services in East Kilbride and similar places – to help them keep going.

Cameron, recently installed as MP for the town, cut the cake on the day, before handing out 47 certificates to various supporters and volunteers.

A buffet was provided for attendees, alongside a programme of entertainment that included a performance by East Kilbride magic man Lorenzo Novani and a special film outlining what has been accomplished by the store.
