Charity challenge for East Kilbride woman

A woman from East Kilbride who survived breast cancer is set to take on the challenge of climbing Machu Picchu to generate cash for charity, Breast Cancer Care.

46-year-old Kim Fergusson will be taking on the trek over a period of 10 days during March, with the cause one that she holds dear. She contracted the disease at the age of 29, during a period when she was a single mother to two small children.

Happily, she went on to make a complete recovery, following a period of treatment that lasted for a year, but the health scare inspired a determination to make the absolute most of life.

She has already taken part in a fashion parade and jumped from a plane with a parachute, with the Machu Picchu trek being the next challenge. She will be accompanied by other survivors, with each day set to involve 12 hours of uphill climbing.

Speaking to the Daily Record, she said that:

“I have always been willing to help out Breast Cancer Care because I know first-hand some of the fantastic work they do. I just see this as another great way to help out – and it should be a great adventure with the girls!”
