Tigger, a cat belonging to a family from Livingstone, was found thanks to the microchip which had been implanted as a precaution. He was found in Aberdeen after jumping in the back of a van and being driven there without the driver realising he was harbouring a stowaway.
Iain Binnie, the driver of the van that Tigger jumped into, took the cat to a nearby SPCA institute where staff checked the cat's microchip before arranging to reunite him with his owners.
The cat’s owners, Leanne Jamison, aged 33, and Jade, aged 10, spoke about the eventful trip that Tigger the cat had made, saying:
“Jade put up Posters all around the street looking for Tigger but thankfully he was returned to us soon after. We've had him since he was six weeks old so we're really attached to him and very glad he's back home safe and sound. Hopefully he won't be going on any more adventures any time soon.”
Had Tigger not been microchipped, it would have proved difficult for the SPCA to reunite the cat with its family. After losing a pet, many families turn to more traditional methods, like poster printing.
East Kilbride and Livingstone residents often find that printed materials can help the search for their missing pets and these, when combined with microchipping, can make for a particularly effective strategy.
