The event, which lasts for 24 hours, also provides people with an opportunity to pay tribute both to those who have lost their lives to this disease and those who continue to battle it.
East Kilbride’s John Wright Sports Centre was the location, with those competing arriving on the Friday night, ready to get the relay race going, with people who have recovered from the illness launching the first lap – as part of their role as honoured guests.
This first stage of the relay also saw the participants serenaded by the strains of the East Kilbride Pipe Band, helping to give them an extra lift.
A local charity fundraiser such as this one always has the option of calling on flyer printing in East Kilbride, to provide the promotional materials needed to get the word out about it.
Cancer Research UK’s fundraising manager for the area, Rowan Main, told the Daily Record that:
“Once again this has been a wonderful event which brings the whole community together.”
Among the activities on offer during the Saturday following the relay was a display by East Kilbride Gymnastics Club, and so far donations have surpassed the £25,000 mark – with money still being sent in.
