Watford to welcome American tale

A stage adaptation of a classic American novel is set to take place in Watford later this year.

First coming into Print in 1868, Little Women by author Louisa May Alcott was an instant commercial and critical success and is regarded as being among the best loved novels ever published. Now the Watford Palace Theatre will be hosting a stage play version of the story that combines comedy, romance, drama and tragedy that was originally inspired by the novelist’s early experiences growing up with three sisters.

This stage version of the story set in New England against the backdrop of the American Civil war was first performed in Dublin’s Gate Theatre. Adapted by Anne-Marie Casey, the play introduces the March family members Marmee, Meg, Jo, Beth and Amy to audiences in a theatrical experience filled with tears and laughter.

The play has received critical acclaim from the press, with the Telegraph newspaper awarding it four stars, commenting:

“Stylish, humorous and compassionate, this is a lovingly crafted adaptation of an American classic.”

Little Women will be performed live between 7:30pm and 10:00pm at the Watford Palace Theatre, located at 20 Clarendon Road from Tuesday, October 11 until Saturday, October 22. An auto-described performance will be held on Wednesday, October 12 and a captioned performance on Wednesday, October 19. This play is recommended for those aged 11 or older.
