Watford shops to stay open during regeneration

Local retailers should not have to suspend trading during a period of regeneration and housing construction, according to Watford Community Housing.

A post office and a laundrette may have to relocate eventually, but essential amenities will be retained throughout the disruptive period. A residents’ organisation could well be reassured by this pledge.

Gareth Lewis is one of the directors for Watford Community Housing, and he told the Watford Observer:

“We know just how important the shops in the Meriden are to people in the local community, including many of our customers. We would not leave them without these vital facilities - especially during these challenging times.”

Print shops can be useful in the property development sector, particularly when organisations have to communicate clearly with the public about potential disruptions.

133 more properties will be added to the Meriden neighbourhood. Flats, houses and bungalows all feature in the overall plan. Construction on the estate will continue to be a phased process.

The housing association is fully committed to working in partnership with local firms. Financial support and practical measures are going to be rolled out when they become necessary, which should enable a smooth transition as the new housing is delivered.

York Way could be a suitable site for the businesses that do intend to make a new start.
