By the start of 2016, over
150 residences had gained from the initiative. Collectively, the inhabitants of the houses affected may have got the chance to save in excess of £50,000 on their yearly bills. Their carbon footprint was also reduced significantly by the impact of the insulation and so can be seen to be beneficial in economic and environmental terms. Leaflets from local printers might be used to promote the advantages of such schemes.
The Harebreaks area of Watford has already done well from the rolling out of the free insulation package. Resident Elzbieta Gradkowska, who lives in Chestnut Walk, was quoted in the Watford Observer:
“It’s been wonderful and I’m looking forward to the savings on my heating bills. As soon as the insulation went on I noticed the difference. It’s lovely and cosy and once it’s warmed up it stays warm for a long time.”
Dorothy Thornhill, the elected mayor for Watford, is supportive of the insulation drive. She has discussed the positive consequences of the policy with those who have already received it. Government resources are being employed to enable the push to continue. The apparently successful nature of the initiative has reportedly meant that further funding applications have been made by the authorities.
