Watford promotes action on dementia

The Alzheimer’s Society has organised official week of events as part of Dementia Action Week in Watford.

This year, Watford FC, Watford Borough Council, Home Instead Senior Care and intu have teamed up to support the initiative. Poster printing can be useful for the promotion of activities such as this.

Peter Taylor, Watford’s mayor, is enthusiastic about the cooperation. Mayor Taylor told the Watford Observer:

“From my own personal experiences, it is possible to live a happy life with dementia. Some people get down about the disease and feel like it’s the end but with the right care and support they can live really happy days.”

Taylor understands that dementia may make life difficult. He appreciates that the condition has the potential to create feelings of isolation. A partnership approach can help deliver support to vulnerable people. Carers may also benefit when different agencies engage in the pooling of expertise.

Dementia Friends is another scheme backed by the Alzheimer’s Society. The hope is that companies can receive training in dementia awareness. Businesses can learn how to treat customers affected by dementia with extra sensitivity. Some firms can adjust their layout to assist individuals to negotiate their premises.

On May 24th, the local shopping centre will stage pampering sessions for everyone who has had their life changed by dementia. The services provided will be free of charge.
