Watford kit to commemorate WW1 soldiers

Amid the typical flurry of advertising and marketing activity, the Hornets have announced the launch date of the new away kit for the 2014/15 season.

To mark the significance of the year, the new black and white kit will commemorate the dozen Watford players who served in World War One.

With part of the funds raised by kit sales going to the Royal British Legion, The 1881, a supporters’ club, has also announced another banner printing target.

The extra banner, which will recognise the 12 men who played for Watford while serving in the armed forces for their country, will also name the best sportsmen to ever compete for the club. It will celebrate eight of the greatest ever Watford players and manager Graham Taylor, and will be 25m x 15m.

It is likely it will be unfurled as the team runs onto the Vicarage Road pitch in the coming season.

According to Roy Moore from The 1881, the new World War banner will start to be designed if donations come to more than £1,800.

The new black and white away kit will go on sale from the Watford FC Club Shop on Friday, 20th June. The club has confirmed that £1 of each sale will be donated to the Royal British Legion.

The team were founded 133 years ago and were originally known as Watford Rovers, competing in the FA Cup for the first time during the 1886-87 season.
