Watford-based dementia friendly business reopens

A Watford enterprise catering to people with dementia opened its doors again on Thursday.

The restaurant, Forget Me Not, was launched back in February, but was obliged to close because of the pandemic. Watford Borough Council and West Herts College worked together to bring back the service. Poster printing can be useful when organisations embrace change, particularly when engagement with the public is a priority.

Watford Borough Council is pursuing a Dementia Friendly Town Initiative. The hope is that awareness of the condition will spread. Meanwhile, provision of practical support is taking place. The restaurant is taking health and safety precautions because of COVID-19.

Peter Taylor, the Watford Mayor, told the Watford Observer:

“I'd like to thank the staff and students at the college who are making a different to the lives of people living with dementia in our town.”

Taylor appreciates that dementia can make everyday activities a challenge. As a result, he welcomes what Forget Me Not does for those with the condition. He also understands the difficulties associated with being a carer.

Students have been trained up as Dementia Friends, which has a positive influence on the standard of customer service at the restaurant.

Forget Me Not opens for lunch once a month. A menu with three courses is made available, with the price set at £6.
