New charity shop opened by mayor in Watford

A new charity shop that aims to support mums-to-be was opened in Watford recently by the mayor of the town.

The new shop, which is called Alternatives Watford, is based on Clarendon Road in the town’s centre. Mayor Dorothy Thornhill attended an opening ceremony to declare the new venture open on what turned out to be a busy Saturday.

At the opening of the shop, volunteers were on hand to encourage the public to get involved and to support the charity, asking shoppers to donate equipment and clothing that could be used by mothers and babies. People were even encouraged to become volunteers in the shop itself.

Locals also have the opportunity to sponsor a piece of equipment for the new charity shop. For example, someone could provide a unit to display clothing on for the sum of £50. After receiving donations, the shop’s manager could even produce promotional POS items to boost sales and revenue. Many shops choose to do this by working with a printing company in Watford.

The Alternatives charity specialises in supporting new mothers and pregnant women, giving them emotional and moral support through the potentially difficult challenges that come with pregnancy and motherhood. The charity has been helping local women since 2002, formerly under the name Connections. It is held in high regard in the area, having received the High Sheriff of Hertfordshire award as acknowledgement of the valuable services it provides.

The charity shop is expected to raise much-needed funds to help the organisation to continue its work with women in the Watford region.
