Megan Reynolds, 10, recently designed a poster encouraging smokers not to partake in smoking in or around public playground areas and parks in a bid to educate people about the dangers of second-hand smoke. Megan commented on why she had entered the competition, saying:
“One of my cousins smokes and I am trying to get him to stop. It is bad for you and it smells horrid.”
Wendy Tooke, the Tobacco Control Lead for the public health team at NHS Hertforshire, said that the fact that the Posters in the competition were made by children rather than professional designers made the message in them even more powerful.
Many local health authorities throughout the UK communicate the health benefits of quitting or the dangers of smoking using poster printing. Watford and Hertsmere residents wishing to help relieve others of their second-hand smoke can start by ceasing from smoking in public places and play areas, as stated on the poster that Megan created.
More information on the help available to those wishing to stop smoking in the Watford area can be found at local pharmacies and NHS hospitals.
Megan’s efforts were recognised with the award of a family ticket to a local Farm village and park, as well as a full colour A3 printed copy of her poster to mark her entry into the anti-smoking competition.Get a Free Quote for Posters
