Sir Elton, 67, was there for the official opening of the stand and during an emotional address to fans from the pitch, he stated that it was one of his life’s proudest moments.
The star has enjoyed a lengthy connection with Watford, having spent two separate spells as chairman, and he remains the life president.
He first became directly involved with the club in 1976 and, during his initial period as chairman, he oversaw the club’s promotion to the first division and an FA Cup final appearance in 1984, where they were defeated by Everton.
However, during his speech he stated that he had begun attending Vicarage Road as a six year old, when he had stood in the stadium’s south-west section on the old cinder bank.
The club also produced a commemorative match programme detailing his long association with them, thanks to printing services in Watford, and Sir Elton urged the club to achieve further success this season. He commented:
“Let’s continue to have success. Let’s get to the Premiership. Thank you very, very much – this is one of the greatest days of my life.”
The team currently lies sixth in the Championship table and rounded off the day in perfect style by securing a 2-1 victory over Wigan.
