Preston to welcome back Christmas pantomime

Preston will be celebrating the festive season with a pantomime this year, marking the first one that the city has had in five years.

The pantomime in question will be Rapunzel, but this is no standard telling. Instead, it is being subtly reinvented for a modern audience, although the heart of the story remains the same. Rapunzel is locked away by Mother Gothel and must be rescued by Prince Rider, helped by Fairy Flower, Queen Delilah and Muddles. This pantomime is the work of Darling Productions UK and is set to feature current chart pop as its soundtrack.

Stage City will be serving as the venue for it, taking over from the old Charter Theatre. This shut down for good back in 2019 and Preston has been denied a Christmas pantomime ever since.

For that reason, demand for tickets will likely be high. Venues often look to stimulate demand for their shows with the help of Preston shops that offer promotional poster printing.

Prince Rider in this show is being played by Reece Ford. Speaking to Blog Preston, he said:
“I grew up in Preston and went to the Charter Theatre every Christmas for years. It was the panto that made me want to do theatre. Now I’m here helping to bring it back to the city, which feels great.”

It will run throughout December.
