A new tower block is to be built at a location in Preston, and it will be the tallest structure in the entire city.
The planning committee for Preston City Council voted unanimously to approve the Plans for this block. It is set to be called Altura Tower and have a total of 30 floors. This will make it taller than both the Guild Centre Tower and the St Walburge’s Church spire, which are the current second and first tallest buildings. The block will be used for a mix of office spaces, housing and leisure amenities.
Housing will take up the majority of the building, as there will be 218 flats. The people who live in them will be able to benefit from a yoga studio and a gymnasium. However, there will also be seven offices and spaces for people to work from home.
When companies move into new offices in Preston, they often look for business-friendly local services. For example, the city is home to shops that supply Corporate Gifts, for winning over clients.
Altura Tower is not set to contain any affordable housing, but a compromise has been reached on that issue. The developer behind the scheme has agreed to provide £550,000 that can be used for constructing affordable homes.
One of the main arguments in favour of the block was that professionals need housing in the city centre.
