Preston reaches for the stars

The astrophotographer Lee Hunt (also known as The Starsmith), will give a talk, organised by the Wildlife Trust for Lancashire, Manchester and North Merseyside, near Preston in mid-October.

He has been fascinated with the heavens since a child and was further inspired by the purchase of a beginner's National Geographic Telescope. This led him to develop a keen interest in photographing the night skies.

Over the period of a decade, Lee built up his own observatory to become a semi-professional astrophotographer. His work frequently features in local exhibitions, and he delivers talks on astronomy to local communities.

The Starsmith will lead those attending on a virtual tour across Lancashire's night skies, taking in the planets of our solar system as well as far-off galaxies. Attendees will discover what is visible to the human eye, the essential equipment required as well as the possibilities when it comes to sophisticated photography.

A cloud-free evening should afford an opportunity to see a host of astral phenomena through Lee's various telescopes. The talk itself is due to take place in two parts, with pie and peas on offer during the interval.

A general admission ticket will cost £22.50. Printing services can be a valuable resource for those engaged in preparations for a future public talk or community event.

'Skies and Pies with The Starsmith' has a starting time of 7pm on Thursday, October 19 at Brockholes Nature Reserve, Preston.
