Schoolchildren from Preston participated in a talent show at the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) recently.
Children who attend Preston-based schools were invited to participate in the talent show, which had a Chinese theme. Poster printing can be used to inform the local community about events taking place. Assunta Russo, a local child, told the Lancashire Post:
“I was really nervous before we went on stage but then I really got into it. I’ve been to China with school and really enjoyed the whole experience.”
Daniel Lin, a teenager from a middle school in China, demonstrated his aptitude for Kung Fu. He also welcomed the opportunity to improve his English skills. He was proud to meet British families.
Preston’s mayor, and former headteacher, Trevor Hart took his daughter along to the show. The pair witnessed various performances, including Tai-Chi, Mandarin songs and traditional Chinese music.
The UCLan Confucius Institute prepared the ground for all the activities by staging weeks of celebrations to mark the Year of the Pig. Feixia Yu is the director of the organisation and she has occupied this post for about a decade.
Eight primary and secondary schools from South Ribble and Preston enabled their pupils to showcase their prowess. Two Chinese schools played a crucial role in making the event happen. The hope was that an appreciation of Chinese culture could be shared in a suitable venue.
