New figures have shown Preston to be a common choice for some of the biggest national retail brands, as more than 30 shops and restaurants are lining up outlets there.
The figures from retail consultancy firm GCW show that the likes of Chiquito, Byron Burger, Bill’s Restaurant, Gourmet Burger Kitchen, Prezzo, Ed’s Easy Diner and Wagamama have all expressed interest in opening branches in the Lancashire city.
GCW is currently collaborating with the owners of Preston’s Fishergate Shopping Centre, Benson Elliot, on a major regeneration that will cost £40m to complete.
This proposal has been submitted to Preston Council and is now awaiting planning consent. Should this be granted, these brand names could be among those opening in the refurbished centre, which will also feature a smart new cinema.
GCW has indicated that it thinks this interest represents a positive sign for the wider city centre investment and regeneration Plans. Benson Elliot’s retail director, Peter Cornforth, told the Lancashire Evening Post:
“The interest in Preston is growing. Our regeneration plan is just the start and the arrival of well-known national chains at the Fishergate Shopping Centre will send out a message to others in the sector that Preston can deliver.”
