The US pop-rock and third-wave Ska band, The Toasters, with special guests Doin' Sublime, is due to play a gig in Preston at the beginning of May.
These pioneers of the genre got together in New York in 1981, thanks largely to founding member, Englishman Buck Hingley. He had previously relocated to the city in order to become the manager of a comic book shop.
The band's first outing came when they opened for Bad Brains. Their initial release in 1983 was the single Beat Up, followed by an EP, Recriminations and then in 1987 their debut album Skaboom!
The Toasters' sound has gradually evolved over the decades, adding a brass element, with the line-up undergoing frequent changes. Those making regular contributions include Mat Malles, Coolie Ranx and Brian Sledge.
They have produced a total of nine studio albums, plus singles EPs and compilations, appearing on a variety of labels but notably on Buck's own Moon Ska Records. Their two most recent records are the One More Bullet album, marking 25 years together, and the 7-inch House of Soul released in 2013.
Tickets cost £13.20 inclusive of a booking fee. It is worth considering printing services as a resource when it comes to promoting a forthcoming show or musical event.
The Toasters (NYC Ska) gig has a starting time of 8pm on Thursday 4th May at The Continental, Preston.
