Shops and businesses in the city centre already have a number of ways of operating that encourage shoppers to spend money, such as Posters promoting offers or eye-catching point of sale items produced using POS printing.
Preston shoppers will now have the added incentive of no traffic to worry about to encourage them to spend time and money in the city centre shops and restaurants.
Lancashire County Council’s Director of Environment and Public Protection Services is Phil Barrett. He spoke about the Plans, saying that the traffic-free proposal would try to enhance the experiences of shoppers in the centre of Preston. He added:
“We have bid for funding which is available to help unlock the potential of cities like Preston, which are growing well but could be held back in future if we don’t find better solutions to cater for increases in traffic and pedestrians.
“The bid process so far has required us to outline some fairly wide aims, such as to give more priority to pedestrians on Fishergate.”
The funding would come from the National Lottery and could help to give Preston's city centre the boost it needs to really grow in terms of its economic standing. The proposed Plans recommend that Fishergate, one of the main shopping streets in Preston, would have its road made narrower and that only public busses would be allowed down it, with restrictions being put in place for other vehicles.Get a Free Quote for Posters Get a Free Quote for Plans
