Preston development plan to include bowling alley

Proposals for the development of Preston have now been updated and will incorporate a bowling alley.

Central Preston may be transformed by 2021. A bowling alley should complement a regeneration scheme which comprises of restaurants, a car park and a large cinema complex. Leach Rhodes Walker has been involved in designing the makeover. Graphic design can be useful for planning urban developments, especially when different stakeholders have to come together.

Muse Developments and Maple Grove are engaged in partnership working with the local authority. The construction-based initiative involves activity on an area that is approximately 160,000 square feet in extent. An earlier idea, which suggested that Lancastria House should be demolished, did not get the green light.

Clearance work on the site of the potential development has been completed already. It is hoped that the bowling alley will feature 16 lanes. Preston City Council chief Michael Brown said:

“This cutting-edge and integrated leisure development will reinforce the Harris Quarter as a premier cultural and leisure destination in Lancashire.”

Councillor Brown views the Plans as having the capacity to make the city more inclusive. He sees a dynamic centre as important for the economy of Preston.

Maple Grove’s Andrew Dewhurst is concentrating on making progress with the revised planning application. Several leisure operators have already expressed interest in the project. If planning consent is granted then the whole scheme will be rebranded.
