Preston bus link is saved

It has been announced that a bus link between Preston and Yorkshire, which had been threatened with the axe, will now remain available for local people to use.

Preston Bus is set to maintain the 180/280/X80 bus services that go from Preston to

Skipton, minus the current public subsidy. At the moment, Lancashire County Council provides this, but the service was due to end at the start of next month, as part of an overall budget reduction.

The three bus services are currently used by over 250,000 people a year and will remain operational throughout the week, following exactly the same route as they do at the moment.

Bob Dunn, the managing director of Preston Bus, told the Lancashire Evening Post:

“The fact Preston Bus is taking over the operation of the service linking Preston with Yorkshire demonstrates my ambition to improve public transport in and around Preston.”

The company has also confirmed that the timetable will largely remain in place, although a few minor changes will be made e.g. to Sunday bus times. Both return and single ticket prices are set to remain at the present levels, but it will be offering new weekly and daily tickets that can also be used with the city network of Preston Bus.
