Preston Bridge Club raises money for charity

Preston Bridge Club has raised in excess of £1,000 for a charity.

In order to raise this sum, the club staged bridge events at a wide range of venues. The event became the first café drive in the north. The funds from event have been passed on to a local foundation, the Rosemere Cancer Foundation which is located in the city. Print shops in Preston may be of use to organisations engaged in fundraising activity.

The café drive was arranged by established members of the bridge club. Geraldine Rankin was one of the organisers and she told Blog Preston:

“Bridge café drives usually have a charity element and we decided to use ours to raise money for Rosemere Cancer Foundation.”

Rankin pointed out that Rosemere is a popular charity. This is because of the work done at the Rosemere Cancer Centre. The limited resources available to the NHS at the moment means that there is an argument for essential training, research and equipment to be funded in part via charitable giving.

A café drive within Oxford inspired the Preston Bridge Club to plan the venture. Rankin had got a lot of pleasure from playing bridge in the southern city. The Preston drive was won by Maureen McConkey and Catherine Draper.

It is possible to be taught to play the game at the club. An introductory lesson can be obtained free of charge and sessions are due to start in late September.
