Preston BID secures five more years

Preston’s Business Improvement District (BID) will represent 800 firms for another five-year period.

The Preston BID was re-elected in a recent vote and this victory means that the body will work for 800 companies in the city centre for five more years. Over 75% of the eligible voters supported what is a third term for the BID. Future projects could use promotional items from Preston.

Babs Murphy, the Chief Executive for the North and Western Lancashire Chamber of Commerce, explained:

“This five-year term represents a very real opportunity for businesses in Preston to invest together, to work together, and to influence together to deliver improvements that make a difference to the city centre.”

Murphy added that enterprises had outlined an agenda for the BID to deliver. She said that the collective vision included more spending and higher footfall. However, she also pointed out that the organisations in question wanted a cleaner city centre.

Already, the BID team has organised the switch on of the Christmas Lights this year. The event will include free music, with Heather Small from M People headlining.

John Boydell, the chairperson of the BID committee, said that the approach already taken had delivered real achievements. Nonetheless, he underlined his awareness that there was more to be done. Furthermore, he committed the BID to a close engagement with city businesses in the future.
