The Hall Players present the mystery thriller Dead Ringer, which is due to be staged in Preston at the end of January.
In terms of a plot, the play centres on the sudden death of the Prime Minister just prior to a general election. Two cabinet ministers, concerned that they lack the necessary charisma and afraid that they might fail to gain re-election, hire an unemployed actor to temporarily replace him.
The idea is that he should fulfil the role of Prime Minister until after their election victory. However, the replacement quickly gets to like the job, only to discover that the last incumbent was the victim of poisoning. It then descends from an amusing comedy fantasy into a dark murder mystery with a series of intriguing subplots.
Written by Charles Ross and directed by John Ellis, the piece has a mostly male cast of seven with a previously successful run at the Duke of York's Theatre in London. The Hall Players are a local amateur dramatic society founded in 1961 that lists the performance of several hundred plays to their credit since.
Tickets range in price from £10 to £11. Stationary printers can be useful when preparing to present a theatrical or stage production.
Dead Ringer will take place at 7.30 pm between Wednesday 25th and Friday 27th of January at The Playhouse. Preston.
