New tower block planned for Preston

Plans for the construction of a brand-new tower block in the heart of Preston have been submitted to the local council, and now await a decision.

The planning application for this project has been submitted by TSS Property, which is the developer behind it. If it is given the go ahead, the completed tower block would be 30 storeys in height. This would make it the tallest residential structure in the whole of Lancashire. It has been given the name Altura, and it is expected to cost around £40 million to construct.

The location that has been chosen for it is in Derby Street, which is in the centre of the city. At the moment, that site is occupied by a car park, but this would be demolished. The completed tower would contain a total of 218 flats as well as seven office spaces.

When companies are moving into new offices in the local area, they often look for other useful business services. This can include Preston Print shops.

The tower was designed by David Cox Architects. The managing director for that company, Steven Gallagher, told Construction Enquirer that:
“Once complete, Altura will be an elegant, contemporary building; one that celebrates Preston’s growing status as a dynamic urban centre.”

The work of building the tower is expected to take around 30 months from start to finish.
