New man appointed at Preston College

Preston College has confirmed that it has appointed a new division head, Kevin Burke, for the iSTEM project costing £13m and being carried out at the location.

Burke has an impressive pedigree in the STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) area, having recently worked at STEMNET, where he was focused on coordinating STEM studies at college, secondary and primary level.

His role with iSTEM will see him charged with managing the provision of educational courses designed to equip students with the kind of skills needed to work within STEM industries.

Preston College’s iSTEM Centre recreates the environments of typical workplaces, requiring its students to develop theories, subject them to testing and then present their findings.

Speaking to Blog Preston, Burke stated that:

“I was instantly attracted to the college’s vision of educating young people in such a different way. Lots of education providers are building STEM centres, but Preston’s college flipped the system on its head.”

Cutting edge facilities within the city, such as this one, can rely on equally forward-thinking services like digital printing in Preston to assist them in their work.

Burke added that the interest in STEM had increased greatly during the past 10 years and that his main aim was to help make Preston College the primary STEM education provider within northern England by three years from now.

The principal, Dr. Lis Smith, welcomed him to the college.
