Local butcher makes prize-winning pudding

A local Lancashire butcher has won an esteemed prize for a pudding and now has the certificate to prove it.

Brown’s Butchers in Chorley recently scooped a top prize at the British Pork Excellence Awards thanks to its novel approach to pudding making. Its black and white roulade won the prestigious gold award at the recent awards ceremony. Assistant manager at the shop, Tim Brown, spoke about the award, saying:

“We’re absolutely ecstatic. This is our fourth gold award for the black and white roulade but its first ever champion title. We’re a close family business, the shop opened in 1932 and we are now on our fourth generation in the shop. My dad and brother own the shop and along with our team, we work very hard to produce the best products for our customers. We’re constantly coming up with new ideas to keep our product range exciting. This includes over 60 varieties of sausage, some dating back to the 1940s.”

The butchery and product development manager for British Pork Excellence is Keith Fisher. He recently spoke about the success of the awards ceremony, saying:

“It was an incredibly successful event for butchers in the North West. From 207 product entries, 95% went away with an award – over half of which were gold.”

To celebrate its achievement, Brown’s Butchers received a certificate that was produced using full colour printing.

Preston, Chorley and the wider Lancashire region take their pies, puddings and pork products seriously, and this competition shows that there is real appetite – not just for meat itself, but also for these award ceremonies that add a prestigious element.
