Lancashire towns to get footbridge link

The neighbouring towns of Poulton and Carleton in Lancashire are set to get a long-awaited footbridge link between the two areas as part of upgrade works to the Blackpool to Preston railway line.

A new footbridge link between Poulton and Carleton is set to be put in place by Network Rail as part of upgrades to rail links and bridges between Preston and Blackpool, and Poulton sits right on the line between the two.

David Bannister, who is the Tithebarn ward councillor, spoke about the footbridge, saying:

“It’s so important for Poulton because it’s a vibrant shopping area. Having a footbridge there will help because we don’t want people to lose the habit of shopping in the town.”

Keith Lumley also spoke about the new Plans on behalf of Network Rail, saying:

“We’re electrifying key rail routes across the North West to make journeys faster, quieter and more reliable. The line between Preston and Blackpool is due to be electrified in May 2016 and as part of this work we need to modify a number of bridges along the route.”

Local residents have been informed about the Plans for the footbridge thanks to a leaflet that has been distributed to homes around the area after being created using flyer printing.

Preston to Blackpool is a busy railway line, with many people who live in Blackpool commuting to the nearby city of Preston for work or university. The work on the footbridge is due to begin on 7th January 2013.
